Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Chalk ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

Chalk is an AI-powered math tutoring application that provides interactive whiteboard sessions with a conversational AI tutor. The Service uses third-party AI service providers to generate responses, transcribe voice input, and produce speech audio.

3. Eligibility and Age

The Service is intended for users age 13 and older. Users under 18 must have parental consent to use the Service. If you are under 13, do not create an account.

4. Account and Security

• You are responsible for keeping your password secure.
• You may not share your account or let others use it.
• You must provide accurate information when creating your account.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any illegal purpose or to violate any laws.
• Attempt to circumvent usage limits, quotas, or access controls.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code.
• Use the Service to generate harmful, hateful, or inappropriate content.
• Interfere with the Service's operation or security.

6. Subscription and Billing

Chalk is currently in beta. During the beta period, access is invite-only and there is no charge. After the beta, the Service offers paid monthly subscription tiers with message-volume limits that reset on a 30-day rolling cycle:

• Starter — 100 AI responses per period.
• Plus — 300 AI responses per period.
• Unlimited — 1,500 AI responses per period.

If you subscribe through the iOS app, payment is collected by Apple (App Store / iTunes account); subscriptions auto-renew at the same price for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel an active subscription in your iOS device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Refund requests for App Store purchases are handled by Apple per their policies.

If you subscribe through the web, payment is collected by our payment processor (currently being configured). Web subscription terms will be presented at checkout.

Pricing in effect at the time you subscribe applies for the current billing period. We may change pricing for future periods on at least 30 days' notice via email or in-app notice. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance for the next period.

7. Content and Ownership

You retain ownership of any content you create (drawings, text, uploaded materials). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process your content through our AI providers solely to deliver the Service. We do not claim ownership of your content.

8. AI-Generated Content

Responses from the AI tutor are generated by large language models. AI-generated content may be inaccurate or incomplete. Do not rely on it as authoritative academic guidance, and always verify important information against your own work, your textbook, or your instructor.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from the account settings. We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms. Upon termination, your local session data remains on your device unless you clear it.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant uninterrupted availability or error-free operation. The Service is an educational aid, not a substitute for qualified instruction.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the Service or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
