By creating an account or using Chalk ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Chalk is an AI-powered math tutoring application that provides interactive whiteboard sessions with a conversational AI tutor. The Service uses third-party AI service providers to generate responses, transcribe voice input, and produce speech audio.
The Service is intended for users age 13 and older. Users under 18 must have parental consent to use the Service. If you are under 13, do not create an account.
You agree not to:
Free trial. New accounts can start a 3-day free trial by subscribing to Chalk Lite through the App Store or our web checkout. A payment method is required to start the trial; the first 3 days are free, and unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription converts to a paid Chalk Lite subscription at $5.99/month. During the trial you can work through up to 3 full problems per day with the tutor, subject to the fair-use limits in Section 5. Accounts created before September 2, 2026 received a 3-day trial on the account itself with no payment method; when that trial ended, tutoring paused until a plan was chosen. In every case your account and your whiteboards are kept.
Paid plans. After the trial, the Service is offered as auto-renewing monthly subscriptions with message-volume allowances that reset each billing period:
A message is one question or reply you send the tutor (typed, spoken, or scanned), including the tutor's full response. Unused messages do not roll over. Allowances may be adjusted for future periods on notice as described below.
If you subscribe through the iOS app, payment is collected by Apple through your Apple Account; subscriptions auto-renew at the same price for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel an active subscription in your iOS device's Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. Refund requests for App Store purchases are handled by Apple per their policies.
If you subscribe through the web, payment is collected by our payment processor (Stripe). Subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled; you can cancel or change plans at any time from the account page, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Pricing in effect at the time you subscribe applies for the current billing period. We may change pricing for future periods on at least 30 days' notice via email or in-app notice. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance for the next period.
You retain ownership of any content you create (drawings, text, uploaded materials). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process your content through our AI providers solely to deliver the Service. We do not claim ownership of your content.
Responses from the AI tutor are generated by large language models. AI-generated content may be inaccurate or incomplete. Do not rely on it as authoritative academic guidance, and always verify important information against your own work, your textbook, or your instructor.
You may delete your account at any time from the account settings. We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms. Upon termination, your local session data remains on your device unless you clear it.
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant uninterrupted availability or error-free operation. The Service is an educational aid, not a substitute for qualified instruction.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the Service or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
